I've always wanted to take cake decorating classes and I finally was able to do so. I found a class at Hobby Lobby in the evenings and quickly signed up. One more session and I'll be done with Course One. Our teacher is from Puerto Rico and is very difficult to understand. I guess it's a good thing we have instruction books in English with pictures. So far I've really enjoyed the class. I think I should invest in Domino's confectioner's sugar and Crisco!!! I use a ton for the buttercream icing!! Sam's here I come!!!! Back to our teacher......she may be able to decorate a cake, but she sure
CANNOT bake one!!!! Every cake she has brought to class to demonstrate on has fallen apart...lol....The one last week slowly fell off the cake pedestal onto the table during class. It's too funny!! She always ends up using a students cake to demonstrate. I'm very excited to finish all four courses. Course 4 is fondant!! I'm so excited that I'll be able to make Brooke's birthday cakes growing up (not that I'm in any hurry for her to grow up). My niece and nephew both have birthdays coming up. Maybe my sister will let me attempt one for them!!! Here are a few pictures of my cakes. I've only done 2 so far....but I'm proud of myself darn it...lol
My first cake with buttercream icing. Headed to class to decorate it!!
My first decorated creation.
Notice my work area in class. It takes alot of tools to create a cake.
My 2nd creation (last night). I am proud of my clowns!!!
Don't mind the borders, I was playing around with different techniques. After class, I took it to my mom's for the kids to eat.
Guess the clowns got a little tired of sitting up last night!!
We caught them laying down this morning....bad clowns!!

Cute cakes! I can't wait to see some of the others you make.
haha those clowns laying down are funny!
cute! i'd hire ya! sean and i have taken like 10 or so cooking classes together. if jeff is up to it (or even if he's not - sorry, jeff!)u guys should do it. it's pretty fun.
LOL on the sleeping clowns! Those are hilarious! And bravo, sis, on your first cakes! You should be very proud. Looks like Brooke will have some fun b-days to look forward to. I wish I had taken the cake decorating plunge years ago (well relearned it...since I did take classes with Nina many years ago). I think I made my first "fun" cake for Shelby's 1st b-day (so basically Hailey got shafted in the cake dept for her childhood/baby years :)). But, I love making them now (though with 4 kids I might run out of ideas eventually!) But it's such a fun thing every year for the kiddos to pick their cakes out and see the creation unfold. I'm excited to see what you continue to make. You'll have to teach me to make sleepy clowns...and fondant! I'd love to learn both! I picked up the brochure at Hobby Lobby this weekend so maybe I'll re-learn real cake decorating and finally splurge and get real supplies. Right now I just wing it and copy from the internet. Good Job, Mama Candy!
Love you guys and can't wait til July! And I ditto what you said about motherhood. Can't imagine life w/o my babies. They are life's greatest blessing!!!
